Fragile Bonds by Sloan Johnson
Release: April 22, 2014
“Without trust, we have nothing.”
These are the words which have haunted Melanie Erickson for six years. When she walked out of the house Xavier Ross bought as their forever home, she thought she was closing that door permanently, but fate had other plans.
Xavier Ross tried to keep everyone at a distance until Melanie came into his life. The more he tried to fight his feelings for her, the more he fell in love. One rash decision fractured the trust that was essential to their relationship.
Grab a box of Kleenex, because you’ll need it! My heart is trying to calm itself after this highly emotional journey. My heart was aching from the pain and suffering. My heart tried smiling at the bonds Melanie formed with Alyssa and Jacob but I was in constant worry of the ‘what ifs’ and ‘what happens when’ questions. My heart felt like it was being ripped out of my chest hearing the love and devotion being spoken through Alyssa’s thoughts and words. She’s left her mark in my heart, that’s for sure. Learning to trust, forgive, and move forward are the lessons I learned from this journey. Xavier is the most devoted family man, warm hearted, and closet sensitive man…which are just a few reasons of what make him an incredibly sexy man! Jacob is the sweetest bundle of happiness and I feel like I know him while wanting to comfort him at the same time. Sloan was spot on with the age appropriate questions he asked and concerns he had regarding his mom and the rest of this novel. To say I built a connection with this family would be an understatement. I felt as though I was a part of this family. It was hard to accept the ending of this book because I didn’t want to say goodbye. Grab some Kleenex, give this a try and find your next crush! Rating: 4.5 stars
You know you’re reading a well written book when you’re completely conflicted as to how you feel about the H/male character. I have to tell ya….throughout the entire story…I was exactly that…..conflicted. There were times I called Xavier every name in the book…out loud! There were times where I thought…humph…you deserve that, or really…are you kidding me right now?? Yet, the further I got into the story, my heart for Xavier started to soften and by the end I was cheering him on.
I give major “KUDOS” to Melanie. She was a well written, strong character, with an inner strength and an ability to separate that you don’t find in many people. She is a character people will aspire to be like.
Fragile Bonds is a beautiful, poignant piece about life, love, loss, forgiving others as well as yourself, and that tomorrow is promised to no one. P.S……you may want to have tissue handy, you’re going to need it.
