Toxic by Kim Karr

Book Details

He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not…

New York Times bestselling author Kim Karr turns up the heat in a smoking hot, emotionally compelling new novel that takes you into the world of Manhattan’s elite.

In Toxic, Jeremy McQueen, a sexy, intense, sometimes brooding entrepreneur goes after what he wants—the woman he left behind years ago. Phoebe St. Claire, a put together, in control socialite-turned-CEO has been drifting through life searching for something she thought she’d never find again—the right man to share her future.

Our passion was boundless. Our lust untamed. And our desire endless. He was the only man who ever made me feel alive. Then, I betrayed him.

When he reappeared, I didn’t question it. Trust rarely survives the wrecking ball, so when he let me in back in—I didn’t hesitate.

Maybe I should have.

What began as a bid to save my family business, turned into a second chance at love. It felt so romantic. Working together, side by side, with the man I loved. My dream come true.

Nothing is as good as it seems.

We had our issues, but then again, every couple does. It wasn’t jealousy, or our too-hot sex life that I should have been worried about.

It was his darkside.

I never saw the end coming, until it slammed me in the face. The question is—did he?

Was revenge his plan all along?

Sometimes you have to wonder if your life is too good to be true.
Is it real or just an illusion?
Does the man lying beside you really love you like he says he does?
If the answer is yes, you’re meant to live happily ever after.
If the answer is no, you’re living my life, and nothing will ever be the same.

What you do about it—that’s up to you.

Me, I’m in too deep and there’s no getting out.

I’ll take whatever I can get for as long as I can because I know when it’s over…

I’ll never find another man like him.

Kara’s review…

Mistrust. Disbelief. Jealousy. Fear. Uncertainty. The five toxic issues repeating themselves through time within Phoebe and Jeremy’s relationship. Who can they trust? Who’s on their side? What will they do for the one they love? I fell for the story line and Jeremy. I’m team Jeremy all the way! How Kim’s character-build interwove with the past, present, the friendships was spot on and I connected the dots easily. The emotions were real and although there was more leaving and walking away than I normally like, it remained realistic. I found myself questioning and doubting right along with Phoebe. I could feel their pleasure and longing, their need to feel the connection with the other. I didn’t want to leave Phoebe and Jeremy, but I absolutely adored the ending. Jeremy is a true book crush! Give this a try! Rating: 4.5 stars

Caryn’s review…

I am a huge fan of Kim Karr’s writing. Her ability to write so many characters and flawlessly intertwine them and deliver an incredible amount of angst is fantastic. Her writing makes my heart rate increase constantly, to the point where I’m afraid to turn the page, but I have to because I can’t not know what’s going to happen. So I “put my big girl pants on” and literally devour her words.
Jeremy & Phoebe consumed me in such a way that was both wonderful and so damn frustrating. Their chemistry is off the charts hot, and the sex…even hotter.
Jamie: you will adore him. You can’t but not. He is the perfect best (guy) friend.
Avery: I hate her. She’s one of those nasty characters written so well you want to jump into your e-reader and slap her senseless – a lot!
Dawson: the jury is still out on that guy for me. I liked him in the beginning, but wasn’t a fan in the end.
Phoebe:  She’s a pretty tough cookie…for the most part. Truth be told, she had her moments that I felt she needed a slap upside the head, but then again…don’t we all.
Jeremy: Have Mercy! I love that man. A walking, talking, broody (at times) sex on a stick (albeit fictional) definitely my latest, greatest, book boyfriend.
One-click Toxic and enjoy the sexy, angst filled, emotional ride. It’s a hell of a journey that will definitely lead you to your next Book Crush in Jeremy. ~ 4 ~ Stars ~

Karen’s review…

Kim Karr brings us the story of a first love that is full of passion and yet painful memories. I absolutely love her writing style and her ability to create characters that feel to come alive off the pages.
Phoebe and Jeremy’s connection started one summer long ago but their relationship was not entirely honest and they both had issues that were sure to break them. They are seemingly haunted by the memories of that summer they spent together. Will the same trust issues destroy the chance of rekindling the passion and fire? Everything is not what it seems and jealously, distrust and fear made their love toxic to the possibilities. Phoebe and Jeremy had me rooting for them all the way and at times, wanting to shake them and knock some sense into them because they frustrated me with how quickly they ran when some of the fears and misunderstandings surfaced.
Kim Karr’s writing perfectly weaves the past with the present and brought the characters and story full circle. I greedily consumed Toxic filled with anticipation, frustration and satisfaction! An absolute one-click! Give Toxic a try and find a new book crush! 4.0 Stars
