Everything I Left Unsaid

Book Details

I didn’t think answering someone else’s cellphone would change my life. But the stranger with the low, deep voice on the other end of the line tempted me, awakened my body, set me on fire. He was looking for someone else. Instead he found me.

And I found a hot, secret world where I felt alive for the first time.

His name was Dylan, and, strangely, he made me feel safe. Desired. Compelled. Every dark thing he asked me to do, I did. Without question. I longed to meet him, but we were both keeping secrets. And mine were dangerous. If I took the first step, if I got closer to Dylan—emotionally, physically—then I wouldn’t be hiding anymore. I would be exposed, with nothing left to surrender but the truth. And my truth could hurt us both.

Review

This novel was written in such a way that it became visual. The writing was so descriptive that I experienced the emotions and could see the scenery. I could feel the oppressive, sweltering heat; smell the garbage dumped in the field and was refreshed in the watering hole. M O’Keefe’s words are vivid and bring the story alive!
Dylan and Annie are both keeping secrets from their past buried. Annie is learning to speak up for what she wants and is walking the line of discovering herself, knowing what is right and having strong discernment. She is an easily likeable character, one who I was easily connected to and felt a strong bond.
Everything I Left Unsaid is a book I could not put down. It was sweet, demanding, and sexy and filled with wonderful dangerous secrets. The writing was authentic and beautiful; truly an escape for the reader. Give this a try and find your next Book Crush. 4.0 Stars

Once Annabel heals, she’s stunned to realize she is falling for the seductive man who saved her. Faced with their impossible attraction, can she accept the life he leads, or will Rev walk away from the only life he’s ever known for the woman he was never supposed to love?

Review

Redemption had a dual meaning within this novel. Annabel has kidnapped and needs saved from the brutal ways she’s suffered. Rev, President of the Hell Raiders MC, is on a mission to find the missing daughter of one of his club brother’s. Rev needs his own redemption and he struck his match in the red-headed woman he saves from the cartel. Annabel and Rev build the foundation of their relationship on friendship and trust. They have shared experiences of being assaulted and have formed a bond by being present while the other is suffering emotionally. This sharing of past pain gives Rev the courage he hasn’t had to open up to his family about it as well. Rev may be a burly biker, but he’s also sentimental and sweet. The tension lurks around every corner as you anticipate the cartel wanting revenge. Katie places you in the middle of this biker community where you feel the love and support of a family. Annabel takes to Willow immediately. The grief Annabel works through with her loss…well I was hoping the cleansing waters would heal her. I can’t wait for the next Hell Raisers MC novel, which will be Bishop’s. Rating: 4 stars

Against the Rope

Book Details

As a troubled teen, Gregory Higgs channeled his energy into boxing instead of breaking the law. The ring gave him purpose and something to strive for. So did the Marines. Combining the two seemed like a natural fit.

Another natural fit? Reagan Robilard, the sweet athlete liaison who keeps all the fighters out of trouble and manages their PR—a job that gets more challenging when someone digs up the truth about Greg’s not-so-shiny past after equipment is vandalized at the gym.

Even if it wasn’t her job, Reagan can’t let Greg take the fall. Because passion doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to matters of the heart…

Review

Greg is on the Marine boxing team and Reagan is the teams liaison. Reagan is escaping from her family that cares little about what she dreams for her future and Greg is doing his all to forget his past. Greg is sweet and gentlemanly at the speed in which he approaches Reagan.  They want a solid foundation for a relationship, so this aspect I enjoyed a lot in this novel. Against the Ropes ebbed and flowed for me. The vandalizing suspect is at it again, with no culprit in mind. Those moments would hike up the excitement as would the alone moments between Greg and Reagan. Other moments were fluffy and redundant; the constant practicing, the description of Reagan’s attire. I wanted more answers in terms of the suspect and I wanted Reagan to stand up for herself sooner than she did. Overall this was a good read, and Greg is easy to swoon over. Give this a try and find your next book crush! Rating: 3.5 stars

Karen’s Review…

Madame X is a mystery; not only to the reader but to herself. This book starts out intriguing and pulled me in to the enigmatic life and existence of X. Self-assured, refined and in control, X is a contradiction of herself.
Author Jasinda Wilder starts out with a unique story and fascinating characters. I loved seeing X and Caleb develop as if peeling an onion; slowly the layers pulled away and you could tell with each layer there was so much more than meets the eye. They are complex characters and the reader gets subtle hints to these intricacies.
There were several twists and turns as the book progressed, however after time several scenes became rote. The development of the story became a bit rushed and the pace felt a little too fast with everything happening at once. The excitement and anticipation diminished hastily and the feeling wore off and then when I least expected it, it reappeared and captured me again but only briefly.
Overall, the writing was great, but had a few bumps and the characters complicated. The story had an edge, was fresh, sensual and exciting. It took the reader to the edge and will leave you with more questions and frantically needing the next installment. Jasinda dropped many crumbs in the story and I am following them right along because I cannot wait to see where they lead. Give this a try! 4.0 Stars X marks the spot!

Kara’s Review…

The beginning of this book had me intrigued. The idea of the book (going in blind), Madame X’s job, the seclusion made for an interesting landscape. But this novel fell short for me. The same interactions kept repeating and Madame X is portrayed as this strong woman, yet when it comes to herself and finding herself, she shies away, holds back. There were moments of courage where she attempted to leave, but her fear of the unknown keeps her trapped. Caleb…don’t like him. I feel he’s keeping loads of information from her and she thinks she needs him. He makes her dependent. Logan has her key and she just needs to have the courage to grasp it. The glimpse of Madame X Exposed gave me what I was looking for in this novel. This novel began developing at a nice pace and then plateaued shortly thereafter. There were a few peaks of excitement and hope only to be repeated. Madame X teaches confidence so I hoped she’d have more of this quality herself. Rating: 3 stars

Excerpt

Hands blaze over my bared skin and ignite my desire against my will. I know all too well the heat of this touch, the fires of climax, the moments of afterglow when dark eyes drowse and powerful hands are stilled and I am allowed to let my guard down. I stand still, knees shaking, as lips scour and slide over trembling skin. My thighs are nosed open, and lightning strikes with the touch of a tongue to my slick skin.
I gasp, but a single look silences me.
“Don’t breathe, don’t speak, don’t make a sound.” I feel the whisper on my hip, feel the vibrations in my bones, and I nod my assent. “Don’t come until I tell you.”
I have no choice but to stand and accept silently the assault on my senses: down-soft hair against my belly, stubble on my thighs, hands cupping my backside, fury blooming within me. I hold it back, keep it tamped down, bite my tongue to silence the moans, fist my hands at my sides, because I haven’t been given permission to touch.
“Good. Let go now, X. Give me your voice.” A finger pierces me, curls, finds my need and sets it free, and I loose my voice, let moans and whimpers escape. “Good, very good. So beautiful, so sexy. Now show me your room.”
I lead the way to my bedroom, push open the door to reveal the white bedspread, plumped black pillows, all tucked and arranged, as required. I lie down, setting aside pillows, and wait. Eyes rake over my nude form, examine me, assess me.
“I think an extra twenty minutes in the gym would do you well.” This criticism is delivered clinically, meant to remind me of my place. “Trim down, just a touch.”
I hide the clutch in my gut, the ache in my heart, the burn in my eyes. Hide it, bury it, because it is not allowed. I blink, nod. “Of course, Caleb.”
“You are lovely, X. Don’t mistake me.”
“I know. And thank you.”
“It’s just that our clients expect perfection.” A lifted eyebrow indicates that I should finish the statement.
“And so do you.”
“Exactly. And you, X, I know you can deliver. You are perfect, or very nearly, at least.” A smile now, blazing and brilliant and blinding, excruciatingly beautiful, meant to soothe. A finger touches my lips and then traces favorite locations on my anatomy: lips, throat, breasts, hips. “Roll over.”
I move to my stomach.
“On your knees.”
I draw my knees beneath my stomach.
“Give me your hands.”
I reach back with both hands, and my wrists are pinioned in one large, brutally powerful hand. My shoulder blades touch each other as my arms are drawn together, and my face is pressed into the mattress. I swallow hard, brace, breathe.
Oh, the ache, the fierce throb as I’m penetrated. I’m rocked forward and my shoulders twinge and the grip on my wrists holds me in place.
I have no choice but to feel the burgeoning blaze, no choice but let it push through me and make me breathless, and I want to cry, want to cry, want to cry.
But I don’t.
Not yet.
I let myself go when I’m told to do so: “Come for me, X.”
And then it’s over, and I’m turned to lie on my back, gasping, and whispers bathe over me. “So good, X. So beautiful.” A finger to my chin, lifting my gaze. “Did you enjoy that?”
“Yes.” It’s not a lie. Not entirely, at least.
Physically, I am rocked to trembling. Physically, aftershocks still seize me and touch makes me shiver and I am breathless. Physically, yes, I enjoyed it. I cannot help but enjoy it.
Yet . . . there is a space within me, a deep, deep, deep well where truths I do not even dare think live hidden and always buried. Down there, where those truths reside, I know I crave . . . absolution, freedom, a breath taken in privacy, a word spoken without ulterior motive.
But I cannot let those thoughts bubble up. Cannot, and do not. I am a master of self-control, after all. I could hold off orgasm indefinitely. I could go without breathing until told to breathe or pass out. I could remain sitting motionless for hours, until told to move. I know I can do these things, because I have. I learned total control in the harshest of schools.
And so it is child’s play to let my body drape loosely in the guise of intimacy on a hard, taut, muscular body until a chime from discarded slacks demands attention.
“I have to take this.” A pause, a breath, a tap of finger on a cell phone screen. “This is Caleb. Yes. Yes. Sure, give me twenty minutes. Of course. No, don’t let him in until I get there.”
A kiss to my temple, a finger tracing my body from shoulder to hip to foot. “I have to go.”
“All right.” I don’t ask when to expect a return, because I don’t want to know, and because I wouldn’t get an answer.
“Will you miss me?”
“Of course.” This is a lie, and we both know it.
“Good. Your next client is in two hours, so you have time to shower, dress, and prepare. His name is William Colin Drake, and he’s the heir to a technology development company worth fifty billion. Usual terms and conditions apply. The file on William will arrive in the usual manner.”
“Should I expect as much trouble with William as with Jonathan?”
A quirk of a smile, amusement. “No, I should think not. William is a much different animal, from what I’ve observed.” A pause, and a speculative glance at me. “But, X?”
“Yes, Caleb?”
“Watch yourself with William. He’s got a mean streak.”
“Thank you for the warning.”
“He needs to learn to control it, so you’ll have to draw it out of him and make him aware of it. But be careful.”
Draw out his mean streak. Poke a snake, prod a sleeping bear. Risk injury. It won’t be the first time, and it won’t be the last. Hopefully I won’t need medical attention like I did last time. That’s not covered in the contract, of course, but it’s understood: Never, ever harm the property of Caleb Indigo; it’s just not smart business.
When the door closes behind a broad, suit-swathed back, I shower the sex-stink off. I scrub harder and longer than I have to and fight the boil of forbidden emotions. When my skin is rubbed raw, I force myself out of the shower and dress, apply makeup, remake the bed, prepare tea.
And then I seat myself on the couch and breathe, compose myself, push down the vulnerability, put away the fear and the desire. Once again, I am Madame X.

Review

The Hitman series has been fantastic thus far. As for Last Hope–the suspense, spying, angst: I love, and….Godzilla will make me snicker from here on out. Ava is a dedicated friend and rarely complains. She’s a tough heroine and I fell in love with her immediately. She’ll face any danger to rescue her friend. Ava has information that Rafe needs to save his own friend. He’s a hitman, a mercenary. He saves people and has the softest of hearts with a badass shield for a body. The flow of Jessica and Jen’s writing catches me from the first page, in each of the novels in the Hitman series. I love a great love story, but throw in some gun fights, bad ass men and a strong, independent heroine, with a side of angst and I’ve escaped to a completely other level. The beliefs Rafe holds of himself from the words his Mom told him growing up and seeing him overcome these beliefs and finding hope completely tore at my heartstrings. I can’t wait for more from these two in this series. Keep ’em coming. Give this a try and find your next book crush!! Rating: 4 stars

Book Details

From the bestselling horror author of Within These Walls and The Bird Eater comes a brand-new novel of terror that follows a teenager determined to break from his family’s unconventional—and deeply disturbing—traditions.

Deep in the heart of Appalachia stands a crooked farmhouse miles from any road. The Morrows keep to themselves, and it’s served them well so far. When girls go missing off the side of the highway, the cops don’t knock on their door. Which is a good thing, seeing as to what’s buried in the Morrows’ backyard.

But nineteen-year-old Michael Morrow isn’t like the rest of his family. He doesn’t take pleasure in the screams that echo through the trees. Michael pines for normalcy, and he’s sure that someday he’ll see the world beyond West Virginia. When he meets Alice, a pretty girl working at a record shop in the small nearby town of Dahlia, he’s immediately smitten. For a moment, he nearly forgets about the monster he’s become. But his brother, Rebel, is all too eager to remind Michael of his place…

Review

The month of October is nearly here. I think of fires, full moons, scary movies, and gore. Brother is gruesome with a twisted family that participates in vicious acts. Michael was kidnapped from his birth family and brought to live with the Morrows. He was too young to know that the family they were “welcoming him into” would seal his fate and what he would become. I found myself having hope for Michael and also screaming in urgency for him to stand up for himself. He found his strength, but by then was it too late? This novel is dark and twisted and I loved every word of it. Brother is a great book to read if you’re wanting dark, gruesome reads on your October to-read list. There are ulterior motives, vindictive characters, and people out for blood. This is my first Ania read, but I’ll be sure to grab her others. Give this novel a try!! Rating: 5 stars

About the Author
Ania

Born in Ciechanow Poland, Ania has always been drawn to the darker, mysterious, and sometimes morbid sides of life. Her earliest childhood memory is of crawling through a hole in the chain link fence that separated her family home from the large wooded cemetery next door. She’d spend hours among the headstones, breaking up bouquets of silk flowers so that everyone had their equal share.
Author of eight novels, Ania’s work has been lauded by Publishers Weekly, The New York Daily News, and The New York Times. Some of her work has been optioned for film.
Beyond writing, Ania enjoys baking, scary movies, weird documentaries, traveling, discovering new restaurants, and (lots and lots of) coffee. She currently resides in the greater Portland, Oregon area with her husband, Will, and canine buddy, Sulley.

Dancing in pop superstar Beckham Woods’ entourage was the last thing Roxie wanted. Her life with little Leo was blissfully ordinary; she didn’t have time for the drama that stirring up old memories would surely cause.

But when Roxie took a spot on an international tour with Woods and rock icon Ian Sterling, the lure of financial security and her passion for dance pulled her into an emotional storm that threatened to spin out of control and hurt the ones she loved most.

Just as she began to adjust to her new life, it became apparent that danger was in the shadows, waiting for a chance to move…

Review

If you fell in love with Ian and Sparrow in True Love Story as I did, then you must read Fade to Red. I squealed upon finding out they’d be involved in Beckham and Roxie’s journey. Beckham has his weaknesses, as we all do. Making him real to me. He is real, right? He struggles, but has a helluva support system. Roxie is fierce, loyal, a tiger (or a cat with claws), and a fluidly poised dancer. She loves with her whole heart, but if you cross her…watch out! Willow has amped the suspense in this novel with a huge twist. You’ll question one’s sanity and want to seek vengeance. But not before questioning and analyzing who the culprit could be. Leo stole the show for me. His lisp melts my heart and each time I read his words…that’s right, they’re being read with a lisp. His overflowing abundance of life and joy. His feelings so pure. If you enjoy your love stories with twists and turns grab FtR. Willow’s characters and emotions fly from the pages and leave their mark. Give this a try and find your next book crush!
